You can store scuba gear in the attic if your attic is properly climate controlled. Attics that lack proper climate control often get too hot from prolonged storage, increasing the chances of damage to your scuba gear.

Keep reading to learn the basics for storing scuba gear in your attic.

How to Store Scuba Gear in the Attic Safely

As long as your attic is climate controlled, you can follow basic storage procedures for most of your items. This includes:

  • Cleaning gear using fresh water and proper treatment solution (if needed)
  • Storing gear only after it dries completely
  • Checking regularly for signs of bugs or storage issues

Your wetsuit, buoyancy control device, and regulators are best stored hanging up. There are special hangers for each of these items, and it’s recommended to use a specialized hanger to prevent creasing or corrosion.

Store tanks upright without their bottoms resting on the floor. A dust cover prevents contaminants from entering the tank, but manufacturers also recommend keeping reserve air inside for this reason.

Most other items, including specialized equipment or smaller gear, can fit safely inside a bin. You still want to use something waterproof to protect against moisture, and check on your gear regularly in case an issue arises during storage.
